Florida City Municipality
After the devastating hurricane season that rocked the state of Florida in 2004, governments and companies alike were investigating methods to improve their computer networks. One such city noticed a radio link that was already apart of their water treatment network survived all four hurricanes of the season without incident. FDDI was approached to resign the layout of the city from a wired network to a wireless network; with an emphasis on hurricane resistance and emergency backup systems.
The resulting system consisted of AdaptLink and Orthogon radios and was installed during the summer of 2005. To date it has survived numerous hits by tropical storms and hits by hurricanes all with little maintenance. This network handles not only all data and VOIP for the city, but also security video and SCADA data for the water department. |
